Claude Duet: What Anthropic’s Proactive Personal Agent Does, Who Can Get It, and How to Join

By og.cc.cd · Published · Updated · 3 min read

TL;DR: Claude Duet (announced 2026-10-21) is Anthropic’s proactive agent app: a morning brief, tasks run on its own cloud computer, approval before it acts; research preview by waitlist for US Claude Pro and Max users, included in the plan.

On 21 October 2026 Anthropic opened a research preview of Claude Duet, a separate app in which Claude works as a proactive agent: it tells you what needs your attention, takes tasks you message it, keeps working when you step away and checks with you before acting. This page sums up what Anthropic’s own pages say.

What it does

  • Morning brief. Each morning it sends a short brief on the most important items across your connected apps, then messages you during the day only when something needs you. It checks your accounts every few hours rather than nonstop, to save plan usage.
  • Hand it tasks by message. Text or voice in one ongoing thread — from scheduling meetings to dashboards, financial or sales forecasts, prototypes and web apps.
  • Keeps working without you. It has a virtual machine with its own browser in the cloud, so your laptop or phone does not need to stay on; you get a notification when a task is done or needs review.
  • Uses your existing Claude setup. Memory, skills and connected apps carry over from your Claude account.
  • Business chores. Anthropic’s examples include finding unpaid invoices in QuickBooks or Stripe and drafting reminders, preparing payroll in Gusto, and getting agreements ready for Docusign.

Safety and approvals

  • Before it sends a message, makes a payment, signs a document or deletes anything, it shows exactly what it is about to do and waits for your approval.
  • Some actions are off-limits even with approval, such as trading securities or moving money between accounts.
  • It never directly sees your passwords or sign-in tokens; a dedicated classifier blocks sharing the strictest tier of information, such as credit card numbers and government ID.
  • Purchases go through Stripe’s Link wallet with a virtual card (or Shop Pay), and Link asks you to approve the spend.

How to get access

  1. Make sure you are on a Claude Pro or Max plan in the US (Team and Enterprise are not included yet).
  2. Join the waitlist on the Claude Duet page; Anthropic emails you when it is ready for you.
  3. Install the iOS or Android app (or open it on claude.ai), connect only the apps you need, and start with a low-risk task such as a morning brief or a draft reply.

What is not ready yet

Anthropic says the preview may misread a thread or miscalibrate what is urgent, personal errands such as booking tickets are weaker than work tasks, it cannot yet show you its browser, and it lives in its own app separate from the main Claude app.

FAQ

Is Claude Duet free?

No separate price is announced: during the research preview it is included in Claude Pro and Max and uses the same usage limits. The Free plan is not listed.

How is it different from the Claude app or Claude Code?

The Claude app waits for you to open a chat; Claude Duet comes to you with a daily brief and works in the background. Claude Code is the coding agent — see our Claude Code guide.

Can I use it outside the US?

Not at launch: the preview starts with Pro and Max users in the US. Check Anthropic’s pages for wider availability; this site does not explain how to get around regional limits.
