How to Get a Xiaomi MiMo API Key: Xiaomi Account, Real-Name Rules and Base URLs
TL;DR: Sign in to platform.xiaomimimo.com with a Xiaomi account; domestic and overseas accounts are billed separately and pay-as-you-go keys differ from Token Plan keys, so match the key to the right base URL.
Xiaomi MiMo’s API platform (platform.xiaomimimo.com) uses your Xiaomi account. Domestic and overseas accounts are billed and served separately, and pay-as-you-go keys differ from Token Plan keys — this guide sorts out which key and which base URL you need.

Account requirements
- Only personal accounts are supported, and you sign in with a Xiaomi account (register one at id.mi.com).
- Mainland users register with a mobile number or sign in via WeChat, Weibo, QQ, Alipay or Apple ID; overseas users use email, Google or Facebook.
- Domestic users must complete personal or business real-name verification before topping up or buying a plan.
- Domestic accounts pay with WeChat Pay, Alipay or Xiaomi Pay; overseas accounts pay through Waffo in USD, with no invoice. The two have different base URLs and keys that do not work across, and usage is counted separately (Account FAQ).
Create the key
- Sign in to the console at
https://platform.xiaomimimo.com/console/balancewith your Xiaomi account. - Pay-as-you-go: open API Keys (
https://platform.xiaomimimo.com/#/console/api-keys) and create a key. These keys look likesk-xxxxx. - Token Plan: after subscribing, take the dedicated base URL and key from the Token Plan page (console/plan-manage). Personal plan keys look like
tp-xxxxx, team plan keys likettp-xxxxx(First API call).
Whether the key is shown only once is not stated on the pages we checked — copy it into your secrets store as soon as you create it.
Base URLs
| Use | Base URL |
|---|---|
| Pay-as-you-go, OpenAI-compatible | https://api.xiaomimimo.com/v1 |
| Pay-as-you-go, Anthropic-compatible | https://api.xiaomimimo.com/anthropic |
| Batch | https://batch-api-cn.xiaomimimo.com/v1 |
| Token Plan | https://token-plan-cn.xiaomimimo.com/v1 (and /anthropic) |
The curl examples authenticate with the header api-key: $MIMO_API_KEY; the SDK examples read MIMO_API_KEY and send it as a Bearer token.
Hello world
export MIMO_API_KEY="paste-your-key-here" # pay-as-you-go keys look like sk-...; never commit it
curl https://api.xiaomimimo.com/v1/chat/completions \
-H "api-key: $MIMO_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"model": "mimo-v2.6-pro",
"messages": [{"role": "user", "content": "Say hello in one sentence."}]
}'
# The SDK examples use Bearer auth instead: Authorization: Bearer $MIMO_API_KEY
Model retirement: the old MiMo-V2.5-Pro and MiMo-V2.5 model IDs stop working from 21 Oct 2026, 10:00 (UTC+8). Use the V2.6 models (mimo-v2.6-pro, plus V2.6-Flash and V2.6-Pro-Ultraspeed). See our MiMo V2.5 → V2.6 migration guide for the ID mapping and prices.
Free credit and limits
The MiMo docs have a “Welcome Bonus” page, but we did not verify the amount or conditions, so we do not quote one here. Prices are in the migration guide. Before you top up, paste a typical prompt into the token counter and estimate a month of traffic with the LLM cost calculator.
Common gotchas
- Key works in one place but not another. Domestic and overseas keys and base URLs are not interchangeable; Token Plan keys go with the Token Plan base URL, pay-as-you-go keys with
api.xiaomimimo.com. - Cannot top up. Domestic accounts need real-name verification first.
- Old model name errors. V2.5 IDs are invalid after the retirement time above.
- Safety. Put the key in an environment variable, keep it out of Git and out of any code that runs in a browser or mobile app, and replace it if it is ever exposed. The API keys overview has the full checklist.
FAQ
Can a company account use MiMo?
The account FAQ says only personal (Xiaomi) accounts are supported for sign-in; domestic users can complete either personal or business real-name verification before paying.
Which header should I use?
api-key: $MIMO_API_KEY as in the curl example, or Bearer auth as in the SDK examples.
Do I get an invoice on an overseas account?
No — overseas accounts are billed through Waffo in USD without invoices.
